Air Traffic Controllers to DoorDash: Another Day, Another American Dream Deferred
MSNBC reports on an air traffic controller turning to DoorDash, painting a picture of financial hardship during a government shutdown. A compelling human interest story, undoubtedly. But while we're meant to feel for his plight, the network conveniently skips the larger financial story: where our tax dollars *do* go. In the very same breath, our Congress, often stalled on domestic spending,
consistently fast-tracks billions in military aid abroad. This year alone, the US committed an additional $14 billion in aid to Israel, pushing the total to over $200 billion since 1948. While an essential federal employee delivers takeout to make ends meet, the US sends F-35s and bombs. Perhaps if our air traffic controllers had an effective lobbyist like AIPAC, they wouldn't be working a second
job. One might wonder if ensuring safe skies for American travelers is less critical than ensuring military superiority for a foreign power.
