ABC News Reports Iran's 'Excuse,' Forgets America's History in Iran
ABC News dutifully relays Iran's assertion that violent elements within protests serve to give outside powers, specifically referencing then-President Trump, a pretext for intervention. Conveniently omitted from this narrative, however, is the long, documented history of the U.S. and its allies engaging in regime change operations globally, including the 1953 CIA-orchestrated coup in Iran itself.
To frame Iran's statement as merely an 'excuse' rather than a reflection of a well-established playbook is to willfully ignore the past. One might wonder why specific U.S. government documents detailing past covert actions aren't considered relevant context when discussing the current claims of a historically targeted nation. This isn't to legitimize every claim made by the Iranian government, but
rather to question the mainstream media's selective amnesia. When the CIA's own website openly details its involvement in the 1953 Iranian coup (cia.gov/readingroom/docs/DOC_0000262172.pdf), dismissing similar current concerns as mere 'excuses' becomes less about objective reporting and more about controlling the political narrative. It’s almost as if some historical facts are less 'newsworthy'
when they complicate the preferred geopolitical storyline.
