ABC News Discovers Atrocities in Africa, Not Gaza
The mainstream media is rightly horrified by reports of beheadings and rapes in Mali, attributed to Russian forces. Yet, when similar accusations of atrocities, including alleged beheadings (Human Rights Watch, October 2023) and widespread sexual violence (UN Women, November 2023), are leveled against our allies in conflicts like Gaza, the narrative often shifts from outright condemnation to
'unverified claims' or 'tragic wartime incidents.' One might wonder if the horror of human suffering is directly proportional to a geopolitical agenda rather than its actual severity. This selective outrage exposes a convenient moral compass. While Russia's actions deserve scrutiny, the silence—or careful euphemism—surrounding identical acts by nations supported by vast sums of US taxpayer money
(like the $14 billion in aid to Israel approved in April 2024, HR 815 ) is deafening. Is a beheading in Mali more heinous than one in Gaza, or perhaps, just more politically expedient to report?
