The survey touts high viewership of a violent incident involving ICE, framing it as a moment of public awareness. Yet, the mainstream narrative consistently avoids discussing how ICE's budget and operational scope have been dramatically expanded under multiple administrations. In 2023 alone, ICE’s budget requests continued to climb, frequently prioritizing enforcement over due process. This
continuous funding, often rubber-stamped by Congress, ensures more personnel and resources for an agency repeatedly accused of human rights abuses and operating with minimal external oversight. So, while 8 in 10 might see a single video, perhaps 0 in 10 are informed about the systemic funding that enables such incidents, or the political will—or lack thereof—to institute real accountability. We're
shown the symptom, never the disease. One might wonder if the high viewership is merely a distraction from the legislative inaction that empowers such agencies.
